Week two, Introducing the Professional Broadcast Film Kit

In week two, we have the camera workshop. Peter taught us to use different function of the camera. Also, how to set up the camera. The camera we used in the lessons is PXW-Z90 by Sony. The recorder has much more functions than the camera. Therefore, we have to pay lots of attentions during the class. I watched some news in the internet. Some photography call PXW-Z90 as the masterpiece camera to shooting documentary . Peter taught us how to use the adjust the flash light, close up, white balance

I know that we have to use this camcorder to shoot a 4mins project video. I watched some tutorial from Sony on YouTube after the camera workshop. I find that there is a function called AF drive speed. It is a camera effect that can changed the focus of the subject. This is a effect that I have never get in touch with before. I think this is a effect that will be useful in our final project.

In this week, we also discuss on the reading Ch11 Developing Your Story Ideas and Ch 15 Initial Research and the Draft Proposal. We shared our ideas in class after we did the readings. Ch11 Developing Your Ideas is a journal which talk about how to develop the story ideas. There are many categories that we should think of. For instance: childhood stories, from the. newspaper and Journal. When we editing a video, we found add some B-rolls. B-rolls are not the main content but after we edited B roll in the video. The video would be more fluency. Also, it can transfer the feelings to the audience would be more richer.

In Ch 15 Initial Research and the Draft Proposal, the writer talked about the preparation on shooting the documentary. This are the research we should do before we shooting a documentary.

In summary, the purposes of research are to

•Assemble a context and basic factual information

•Get to know the whole scene so that you can narrow down to what is sig-nificant•Become known and trusted by potential participants

•Communicate your motivations and purposes for making a film•See a lot of characteristic activity so that you know what is normal and whatis not•Understand who represents what so that you can make representativechoices•See who will make a good participant and who won’t

•Develop a proposal indicating intended content, theme, and style so that you can try out your ideas on other people and raise funds or other support

•Decide what the ultimate purpose of making the film should be

•Assemble all the human and material resources so that you can shoot

Chapter 15 Initial Research and the Draft Proposal

We have to do the documentary proposal before we shoot the video, it will make things more easy going when we shooting the documentary. The proposal should included length of the video, group members, the position of each members (Their work), schedule and what equipment should we booked first. Last but not least, the budget summary.

A storyboard would be useful to plan the story plot.
